Designer's Statement
I grew up in Suzhou, a city in China people called Venice in the East because of many canals inside and surround the city. Classical Gardens of Suzhou belong to UNESCO World Cultural Heritage. When I was a little girl, my mom often took me to those ancient gardens to appreciate the beauty of man-made nature. Since then, I have been fascinated by the lakes and ponds created by garden builders. In summer, beautiful lotus flowers and water lilies are blossoming vibrantly, golden fishes and turtles swimming vividly, large green leaves stretching freely on top of the water...The Pond Collection is inspired by this memory. I designed it in winter, which you can see from the snow background I chose to take pictures. But the theme is for summer. I often miss summer greatly in long winters in New York City.
